Programmes

Bhoomi Networks offers programmes conducted by experts in the field who have a multidisciplinary orientation and have focused on understanding interconnections in nature within us and the nature of planet earth. We are also keen on training those interested to conduct such programmes through a flexible or full time internship programme (details given below)

Bhoomi Network offers programmes within the following clusters:

Food and Eco-wisdom

Food is all about relationships. All over the world, there is a new awakening about food and the ecology of our planet. There is a growing movement about organic and natural foods and building up our immune systems rather than become dependent on an increasingly industrialized medical system. And there are many who are getting back to delicious food, family togetherness through growing their food on their terraces, backyards, and on balconies, realizing the importance of eating local foods – both for our bodies and the Earth, and cooking and eating in ways that are more nutritious. Bhoomi shares these ideas through these workshops:

  • Understanding Nutrition, Food and Ecology: How safe and healthful is food today? What are the chemicals in non-nutritious processed foods? Why are GM foods and chemical agriculture a threat to human health? Why do Food-Miles and Carbon Footprints affect us and our planet? How does it all tie-up in the larger picture?
  • Organic Terrace Gardening: The 2 acre Organic garden at Bhoomi offers opportunities to explore ideas of sustainability, practically. In these times of materialistic compulsions and climate change, we need to make individual lifestyle changes as well as build communities for wise living.  This workshop focuses on practical aspects to get a first-hand experience to Earth, soil, compost, nutrients on the field, including pest and disease management.
  • Transition to a Conscious Kitchen is all about having clarity and awareness (without unnecessary anxiety) about everything to do with what we eat. It means enjoying food and caring for nutrition and health in a simple and natural way. It is also about choosing the foods we eat for the right reasons. It involves being conscious about where our food comes from, what it really is, how good it is (or isn’t) for our bodies and the environment,  what kind of cooking is needed for different foods, the energy (internal and external!) we use for cooking, how we store food, and how we clean up and handle our wastes.

Learning from Wilderness

These modules are designed to sensitize children to appreciate Nature in all its diversity and forms. Experience the last remaining expanse of pristine rainforests of the Western Ghats, through treks, activities, learning from local tribes and camping in the forest.  This will also be an exciting and fantastic encounter with diverse endemic species in the region and the magnificent and mysterious forests. These are shared through programmes on:

  • Tuning in to Nature (for School Children )
  • Adventure and Earth Consciousness (for Adults)

Inner and Outer Ecology

We believe in ‘owning up our ecological self’, and in following principles of Nature in the way we work and network. Nature’s Principles as applied to groups and communities working together include co-evolution through respecting diversity, valuing interconnectedness, partnership and cooperation, flexibility, self-regulation and through cyclical flow of energies and resources.

These programmes are based on the work of Fritjof Capra,  James Lovelock, E.F.Schumacher, Mahatma Gandhi and others.

  • Transitioning to Sustainable Living
  • Systems Theory and Thermodynamics
